The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is a lay Catholic organization whose mission is: “To live the Gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice and joy.” Vincentians see Christ in anyone who suffers; come together as a family; have personal contact with the poor; help in all possible ways. Often these visitations happen weekly at homes of the poor and marginalized or at different community facilities.
Once a month parishioners from St. Anthony’s collect leftover bread from Cobs Bakery and deliver it to Harvest Project. At Christmas time we partner with our PREP program to collect food donations for the Door is Open, Harvest Project and those in need. Each month we work with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at Christ the Redeemer to prepare hot meals at the Door is Open on the downtown eastside. There is also the opportunity to provide mealtime assistance at Inglewood Care Centre. All volunteers are welcome, including students in need of service hours.
