The goal of PREP is to assist parents in the religious education of children attending public schools in Kindergarten to Grade 7 and to prepare them to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist in Grade 2 and Confirmation in Grade 7.
PREP used to be known as CCD (Catechism Confraternity of Christian Doctrine or simply as "Catechism," and provides religious education to Catholic children attending non-Catholic schools.
Our PREP program provides catechesis for children who attend public or non-Catholic independentschools in Grades 1 to 7. The Catholic Church recognizes parents as the primary educators of theirchildren and the PREP program is meant to help parents with this key responsibility as well as tosupport and nurture the child’s journey to know, love and serve God. Through PREP, parents and families have also the opportunity to renew their own faith foundation by studying with their childrenand through attendance at special event through the year. Please check the parish website for more information about these events.
Following the mandate and learning outcomes of the Archdiocese of Vancouver and with the directionof our parish pastor, the Very Reverend Father Gary Franken and assistant pastor, Reverend FatherLarry Lynn, the teaching of the Catholic faith is coordinated by Sister Angela Marie and taught by volunteer catechists. Our catechists, who are parishioners of Saint Anthony, are encouraged to continue their own faith journey and to attendant at workshops and retreats that will deepen theirlove and understanding of the faith. If you are interested in serving as a catechist in the PREP program, please contact the Parish office at 604-926-3852.
PREP Catechism Classes will begin Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Saint Anthony’s Parish. We willbegin with Mass and a potluck dinner. Classes will continue to run weekly from grades 2-7 from 6pm to7:15pm and for grade 1, from 5-6pm. Classes will end proximally in mid-June, 2018.
The registration form for this year should be turned in the Parish office with the fee and the copy ofyour children Baptismal Certificate.
PREP year builds on the previous year and each and every grade is important. Families are encouragedto register their children from 1st to 7th grade. To be able to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communitythe student would need to complete grade 1 before registering for grade 2. To receive the Sacramentof Confirmation the student would need to complete grade 6 before registering for grade 7. It isextremely important that the children attend all PREP classes and attend faithful Sunday Mass. It is alsoimportant that the education in the faith continues at home and I we encourage the family to getinvolved in the life of the Parish as well as to attend the different parenting workshops offered by theParish during PREP time..
“Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mince, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40
